The Last Beginning (The Next Together #2) | Lauren James

The Next Together by Lauren James, October 2016, Walker Books, RRP$18.95 AUD

Sixteen years ago, after a scandal that rocked the world, teenagers Katherine and Matthew vanished without a trace. Now Clove Sutcliffe is determined to find her long lost relatives. But where do you start looking for a couple who seem to have been reincarnated at every key moment in history? Who were Kate and Matt? Why were they born again and again? And who is the mysterious Ella, who keeps appearing at every turn in Clove’s investigation?

For Clove, there is a mystery to solve in the past and a love to find in the future.

I received an early copy of the finished book from the publisher, Walker Books Australia, in exchange for an honest review.

It was so different to the first book, The Next Together, but I loved it! It was great to see some of the scenes of book one from a different perspective and knowledge of the future (or is it the present?).

How could you not love Ella? I know that she is the love interest of the protagonist, rather than the protagonist, but for me she completely stole the show! Clove was still a great protagonist and I really enjoyed trying to solve the mystery and save the world alongside her. The family aspect of this book was on point and a wonderful portrayal of adoptive families.

Another epic, action-packed adventure! I loved how this book used time travel to play with the idea of fate. I can’t say too much (since this is a sequel) but I was amazed by how the rules of the world, of time-travel and different dimensions, were explained so that someone who hates physics can understand and actually appreciate it.

Exciting and engrossing; I couldn’t have asked for more.

I just feel that I don’t have enough words to describe my love for this book, but please take my word for how amazing it is and pick it up!
