First of all, I’d like to say how much I love this gorgeous cover! And secondly, the novel is just as beautiful. I haven’t read much new adult, but if they are all as good as Kristen Kehoe’s books I will definitely be adding more to my to be read pile. So this novel definitely was not what I was expecting which is definitely a good thing because it was so much better than I could have ever imagined. Usually I find contemporary books too light and I read them for breaks from my heavy university reading, but this book is so much more than that. I love how the big issues of the book and the internal problems of the characters are dealt with. The characters are so well developed and complicated and interesting all at once. And by that I mean ALL the characters, not just the two protagonists. One of my favourite aspects of the book is how the chapters alternate narrators between the male and female protagonist; I love how this advances the narrative and gives more dimensions to the characters because you get to see them how they are seen by others and also how they see themselves.

I absolutely adored The Light of Day and through reading it I would really like to go back and read the other Beyond the Horizon companion novel.

4/5 stars
